A Visit From A Lifelong Friend................

Friday afternoon, Roger's childhood friend, Parvis, arrived in Portland on Amtrak.  It was my first time going to Union Station where I discovered Portland's huge and charming brick train and bus station right next to the MAX line.

Parvis lives in Ontario Canada but he attended a science convention in Olympia so he's enjoying a trip through Oregon and California to visit friends.  We were his first stop and it was an opportunity to hear about some of their experiences during their teen years in the 1950s.  The 110 students were chosen from a candidate pool of about 5,000 to attend a boarding school where they spent four years learning agricultural methods that were new to Iran.  After graduation, they went into small villages where they taught people how to farm and grow crops.

Yesterday afternoon we returned to Union Station to bid him farewell as he continues his trip to San Francisco, Los Angeles and San Diego.

  1. Wow! What a special visit. There's nothing like spending time with a childhood friend. In a certain sense, they know us in a way no one else does. :-)
