Monday is PERSIAN DAY IN PORTLAND .........

A visit from my niece and her husband, Kim and Greg Gentile from Daly City, was a perfect excuse to fix a Persian feast.

Roger has been in the kitchen for two days.  Persian food preparation is a science - everything precisely measured and everything cut and diced perfectly.

Today was lunch so he prepared a "simple" meal of:

Pistachio Humus with Pita

Beef and Lamb Pan Fried Kabob
Fresh tomato rice
Green rice with dill and black eyed peas
Shiraz salad

It's Fall so, of course, we had to finish with a pumpkin pie.

A lovely Monday, delicious food, precious family and ........ fabulous leftovers ...............

Beethoven's Fifth at OREGON SYMPHONY

Portland is home to the Oregon Symphony and I was Ann Olsen's guest at last nights performance of Beethoven's Fifth.  It was a magical evening with amazing music, along with a solo by Johannes Moser, on the cello.

The Heathman Hotel is next door to the theater so we had "happy hour" before the performance at the Headwater's Restaurant.  A perfect evening.  Thanks, Ann ............

SOUPER NATURAL at Portland Farmer's Market

Today in Portland was like a vignette of our image of a perfect Fall day.  The Park Streets Farmer's Market changes this time of the year - fewer tourists - fewer vendors - but, instead, it's filled with locals who clearly love eating healthy and eating well.  Fresh caught fish, baked goods, fall vegetables, an immense variety of apples and so much more is available, along with locally made goat cheese and small batch brandy.  (Something for everyone).

Golden leaves are starting to drift down from the trees and the temperatures are starting to get chili and people are smiling everywhere I go.  It seems that this is Portland's favorite season.

I've fallen in love with a local soup company, "SOUPER NATURAL'.  They provide four different soup tastes each week and a menu of soups that are Vegan, Gluten free, Vegetarian, and meat based.  Today I bought a mushroom, bacon and white bean and tomato basil.  Defrosted in my refrigerator is clam chowder so that was my lunch.  They ship so even if you don't live here, you can enjoy these fabulous soups.

As I'm writing this, fireworks are starting at the river = a perfect way to end a lovely day.

The movie documentary of MOLLY IVINS

"Raise Hell: The Life & Times of Molly Ivins" is now showing at the downtown Portland Living Room Theater and it is a fast paced look at a very smart and funny journalist.  I wish that she was alive to give us her unique take on the times we presently are living in.

See the movie - you'll love it and you'll fall in love with Molly !!!
