A Busy Sunday

The morning started early (for us) with breakfast at Kolbeh, an Iranian restaurant in Lake Oswego. They serve only two dishes that are native to Iran and both are a special treat because they take as long as nine hours to prepare.

This afternoon I made telephone bids with Bonham and Butterfields in S.F. and managed to spend some more $$$ on some fabulous sterling.

This evening we entertained Allison and Alicia for an early dinner so Roger and I spent the afternoon in the kitchen.

Allison had one hip replaced only a month ago so tonight was the first time that she ventured outside her condo for a social occasion. Alicia is staying with her to help with household tasks and also taking care of Alfie (a very large Doberman).

TIFFANY Solid Sterling YALE Class 1894 Handled TROPHY

Last night while doing some research on one of my new purchases, I made an interesting discovery. Several web sites contain detailed information about the Vicennial celebration held in 1914 to celebrate the class's 20th year reunion. Winlock William Miller is mentioned in several articles so whoever buys this will have an interesting provenance for the trophy.

This is a solid sterling trophy cup made by Tiffany & Co. It was presented to a gentleman who graduated from Yale University in 1894. You can see more information by going to eBay item number 110485087776

A Sunny Day In Portland

Yes, sunshine really is a big deal to Portlanders in January and today it was almost 60 degrees (in California that's considered a cold day - but here it's like a day in Spring!). Being a holiday with good weather, the streets were crowded with people and traffic was as heavy as a work day. We tried to eat lunch at two favorite restaurants but at the first we couldn't find a parking place in a six block radius and the second one had people waiting in a long line for a table. We solved that problem by stopping at Trader Joes to get some groceries and Roger fixed a fabulous lunch at home.

Tonight was the first of three auction nights at O'Gallerie but I was bidding against some really big spenders so we didn't come home with much. There are two nights to go, however, so I'll hope for better luck.

Another Week....................

It has been another quiet week in Portland but a busy one on eBay. This weekend we will be spending time previewing the O'Gallerie Auction that will take place Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights next week.

Many of our friends have taken off to warmer climates for a couple of months so it's quiet even here at the condo complex.

It will only be two weeks before Pam and Lori come to visit so we have that to look forward to.

A Winter Week in Portland

It seems that the first week in January is always a quiet time - finally the Christmas decorations are packed away for another year and this year it was an opportunity to clean out cupboards and closets to start 2010 better organized. Even the storage unit is clean and orderly.

This past Thursday in Portland the electricity went out in the core of downtown for about 8 hours so that created problems for many business people. Freezing rain was forecast for yesterday. It didn't materialize but it was unusually cold all day. So far we're having typical January weather with a huge amount of snow in the mountains.

Other than a couple of errands, today will be a great time to be lazy and watch a movie or two.

GO Oregon DUCKS

From the Rose City to the Rose Bowl - - the University of Oregon DUCKS team will be playing in Pasadena at 2 p.m. We are not really football fans but we'll be watching this game for sure. Portland is really excited about the event so almost everyone is wearing green and yellow today.

After the game note;

Quack, quack.............. a friend (name starts with "R") says they managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory - so true - BUT - they made it to the Bowl and that's a good thing!

The Red Violin

If you haven't seen the DVD "The Red Violin", we recommend it ! It's the story of a violin that was hand made in the 1600s and the story tells about all the people who owned and played it through the Centuries. You'll need to set it for English subtitles at the beginning unless you speak French, German, Italian, Chinese and Hebrew as all those languages are represented as the violin travels all over the world.
